A new shed in a new location

Work has started on the new shed!

We have been granted planning permission to erect a new Shed at Craigtoun Country Park.

We have been given a redundant farm building by a local housing developer – Scott Wallace of Wallace Homes

Many thanks to D-Mac Tanks and Construction from Cupar for erecting the frame.

We are looking for help to install sheeting on the sides and ends, and with the concrete floor.

If you think you can help, please let us know by using the  contact page

This new building will be much larger than our current container based one and will allow us to develop a large workshop, coffee bar, computer room, kitchen, and disabled toilet.

If you have the time, could you drop us a letter of support addressed to “To whom it may concern” to help us with our fund-raising efforts. Please send via the contact page.

St Andrews Men's Shed Garden Project

St Andrews Men’s Shed are grateful to the Old Course Ltd and Duke’s Golf Course for allowing us to establish a gardening project on a redundant part of the Duke’s Golf Course.

The allotment garden will be adjacent to the Service Yard at Craigtoun Park and eventually will have growing beds, polytunnel, orchard and wood store.  We have already had a polytunnel donated from a local firm and 2 fruit trees.

The members will greatly benefit from the therapeutic benefits of working outside and as part of a team. No doubt lots of tea and coffee will be drunk around the campfire whilst putting the world to rights!

Donations and Grants to the Shed

Past Captain Peter Ferguson presented Henry Paul from St Andrews Men’s Shed

with a cheque for £2000 donated by The New Golf Club.

We are grateful to the St Andrews Ball for a donation of £1,875 and to the Old Course Hotel who donated £1000.

We have also received £3000 from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club towards the costs of the new build

National Lottery Community Fund Award.

Over £15 million of National Lottery funding will help to keep vital local services running, as 384 community projects share in grants from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The funding, made possible by National Lottery players, means that many community and voluntary sector groups will be able to continue their support to individuals, families and communities across Scotland.

St Andrews Men's Shed has been allocated £14,540 towards the cost of the construction phase of their new workshop

A defibrillator on site

St Andrews Men’s Shed recently reached out to the community for funding for a much-needed defibrillator for their site at the Botanical Gardens. Within hours, a local resident whose husband is a Men’s Shed member, came forward and offered the full purchase price as a donation.  This exceptionally kind and generous person was Helen Spence. St Andrew’s Men’s Shed invited Helen to their recent open day to see the newly purchased lifesaving equipment in its new home.

The shed is fortunate to have a qualified First Aid trainer amongst the membership, and the picture below shows him demonstrating Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at one of our regular training sessions on the use of the defibrillator.
